14 November leaderboard- the challenge is on!!! Level up!! All schools have until the 10th of December to submit!!

As the year is rushing to an end, the excitement and momentum for our point system is building rapidly! If we look at how fast things are changing on the Schools' e-leaderboard (see above), there is a lot happening behind the scenes. The schools are now pulling out all the e-stops and we are all gearing up for the GREAT e-Celebration happening on the 4th of February- save the date!

What is the point system all about?
KILT has been driving e-learning in our 15 Knysna, non school fee paying schools, by supporting leadership, teachers and learners in their quest to get our learners ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), which is already happening. This means that our schools have to be e-ready for action and making sure that every learner has the necessary digital skills to "make it" in the world of work or further study. This requires our teachers and leadership to lead us forth into the world of digital!
To ensure that we reward our teachers, leadership and schools for their commitment to implementing elearning, we have created the PASS system to do just that. It is a fun and gamified way for schools to earn technology by showcasing their commitment to elearning in all kinds of traditional and innovative ways. The teachers and principals earn points for attending e-workshops, webinars and e-courses and the learners can earn points for the coding and robotics afterschool club attendance, while getting their coding on! Anything e can potentially translate into points and this term we will be collecting all the wonderful e-lessons the teachers have created during the year.
An important ingredient to drive our PASS system is our IT enablers. These young people are stationed in each of the school's computer labs to support the learners and teachers and be our hands, feet and hearts of our eLearning project. They have to collect data, run the computer labs, assist the learners, support the teachers with tech for their lesson plans and learn more about technology as part of their learnership training. On top of this they also facilitate the coding and robotics afternoon clubs.
To get an idea of what schools can do to earn points, see our proposed point sheet. We have now allocated all the points for our programme during the year, Now it is over to the schools to get their game on and show off what they have been doing with eLearning in their classrooms by uploading elessons and resources. The schools also get points for....
- Principals and IT coordinators checking in with the ITEs every morning ( it shows us the schools care about our ITEs and eLearning!)
- Submitting e-lesson plans (20pts per lesson) and resources (another 20 pts, if they created it themselves) and 5 for apps and downloaded material.
- 1500 points for their e-plan (Vision, Mission, Theory of Change and 2023 eLearning action plan, policy documents). (See folder for policy docs, templates and ToC)
- Attending Teaching with technology training- 50 points and implementing the strategies with their learners, another 50 points (done)
- Attending WCED training and other elearning training online courses. (20 points) (4th term still need to be added)
- Writing blog posts about how they use technology in their classrooms or any other e-news. (20 points) (ongoing)
- Completing the retrospective pre-post test- 2000 pts per school (Will be done first week of December)
- Anything e can be submitted for potential points and our elearning lead, as the game master, will listen to any motivation that can prove that the school is on an e-mission and levelling up!
- ITEs making sure that they complete all their training assignments in time.
So what is going to happen to the points?
Commitment needs to be rewarded! So even though there is a lot of fun in the gamification of commitment, schools, teachers and ITEs will be celebrated at our Celebration e-Awards ceremony on the 4th of February 2023. We are inviting tech companies and all schools leadership within the district to join us in celebrating our schools e-readiness.
Rules of the Game:
- All school submitted points have to be on the school self-pointing spreadsheet and proof in the school/teacher folders (ITEs responsibility with ICT coordinators making sure that they are collecting evidence (e.g. resources) from the teachers)
- Schools will be able to use their points, gathered during 2022, to pick their technology. (Data projectors, inverters, visualizers, tablets, apps and tools)
- The picking order will be determined by the leaderboard (Top 3, multigrade schools, high schools, primary schools), depending on their rank on the board)
- You can only choose tech to the value of your points.
- You can only choose one item at a time.
- The top 10 teachers will also do a leaderboard pick and all TwT teachers and teachers who have proven their e-prowess by uploading their elessons will also be in for the picking
- THe top ITEs will not only contribute their points to their schools but will also participate in the leaderboard pickings!!
Love this initiative and how much it’s developing our learners as well as our educators!!!! Well done
