Teacher Tech Thursdays: AI and its implications for our classrooms

With the big hype about the new AI Chatbot (chat.openai.com) and how students can now seamlessly create essays and solve maths problems using this user friendly chatbot, it is time that we investigate exactly what it is and how we can use it for teaching and learning.

If you are new to AI, ChatGPT and other AI tools, feel free to join your friendly ITE in the computer room this Thursday for a quick intro, before you jump into the course below. Completion of the course is worth 40 points. All training visits to the Computer lab is 20 pts. Make sure that you sign in!

If you would like to learn more about AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its implications for education, this free course curated by Dr Nick Jackson, is for you. It is intended to help teachers in their understanding and use of Artificial Intelligence in the form of the ChatGPT chatbot in their practice. It is intended to be both an introduction and an improvement tool.

The course can be followed in its entirety or on a more ad hoc basis. There are some basic formative assessments purely to assist retention of the more 'drier' elements but any form of summative assessment for this course would come from experimentation and developments in the practice of teachers who use it. In other words, the goals of the course are for more teachers to use ChatGPT, to use it more effectively and with confidence.
