Unit 1: Getting Started With Word

Objective:

Learn how to open, create, and save a document.

Instructions:

  • Open Microsoft Word
  • Create a new document:
    File → New → Blank Document
  • Type the sentence:
    This is my school-based word worksheet.
  • Save your document:
    File → Save As
    • Desktop
    • Name your file: HPS_YourName

Unit 2: Working With Text

Objective:

Learn how to type, edit, and format text.

Instructions:

  • Type a short paragraph based on one of your subjects
  • Format your text:
    • Change font, size, or style
    • Use bold where needed
  • Align your text:
    • Left
    • Centre
    • Justify
  • Copy and paste:
    Ctrl + C → Ctrl + V
  • Cut and paste:
    Ctrl + X → Ctrl + V
  • Adjust line spacing (1.5 or 2.0)
  • Check spelling:
    Review → Spelling & Grammar
  • Use bullets or numbering for lists

Unit 3: Page Setup And View

Objective:

Learn how to set up your page for printing and viewing.

Instructions:

  • Change page margins:
    Layout → Margins
  • Change page direction:
    Layout → Orientation → Portrait or Landscape
  • Add a page border:
    Design → Page Borders
  • Change how you view the document:
    View tab → Zoom in or out
  • Preview before printing:
    File → Print

Unit 4: Pictures, Shapes and Tables

Objective:

Learn how to add visual elements to your document.

Instructions:

  • Insert a picture:
    Insert → Pictures
  • Resize and move the picture using corner handles
  • Change how text wraps around the picture:
    Layout Options → Square or Tight
  • Insert a table:
    Insert → Table
  • Fill in and adjust the table size
  • Insert shapes:
    Insert → Shapes
  • Insert a text box for extra information:
    Insert → Text Box
  • Add a header or footer:
    Insert → Header/Footer (Include your name, subject, grade)

ACTIVITY: Build-A-Test

Create a neat, professional document that can be used in your classroom.

Task Instruction

1. Document Setup

  • Open Microsoft Word
  • Create a new document
  • Save your file as:
    Subject_Grade_YourName

2. Heading

  • Type your test title (e.g. Afrikaans Test)
  • Centre the heading
  • Make it bold and increase the font size

3. Page Setup

  • Set page margins
  • Add a page border
  • Ensure correct spacing between lines

4. Instructions for Learners

  • Write clear instructions at the top
  • Example: Answer all questions neatly.

5. Questions

  • Create at least 3 questions
  • Use numbering
  • Keep formatting consistent

6. Table

  • Insert a table for answers or marks
  • Ensure it is neat and properly aligned
