Mandela Day Unplugged Coding Competition

The KILT schools in Knysna held an unplugged coding competition and joined thousands of other learners across the world in honouring Nelson Mandela's vision for education.

We started off with an IT enabler (ITE) KIlT inter-school competition to make sure that our facilitators are ready to roll out the competition and empower the learners using Tangible Africa's Tanks and Rangers unplugged coding sets. These sets made it possible to do coding using only cellphones or tablets. We did not have enough cellphones to accommodate all our learners, but the 122 who participated and represented their schools, were totally engaged and excited and enjoyed the competition with a great deal of zeal. Knysna Secondary School borrowed tablets to the some of the others schools to allow more learners to participate.

Hornlee won the ITE Mandela Day competition and Fraaisig walked away with winning points for the learner Tanks competition. See their blogpost here: https://kiltelearning.co.za/2023/08/03/unplugged-coding-competition/
