Meet one of our ITE’s who will be judging at the WRO this weekend in Grahamstown-Makanda.

Meet Phumela Mankeya, a senior IT Educator (ITE) at Percy Mdala. With a journey of one year and four months at Percy Mdala, Phumela started as a Junior ITE in April 2022. Her passion lies in Lego Robotics, and she has been witnessing her love for this field grow each passing day. She embarked on this exciting journey by working with kids at KILT/EDUNOVA, and under her guidance, they achieved remarkable success, winning the Inter-Kilt competition last year against tough competitors like Concordia High and Knysna Secondary.

The experience of working with these amazing kids has been nothing short of amazing for Phumela. She firmly believes that her true potential and calling revolve around empowering and inspiring these young minds. The impact she can make in their lives brings immense joy and fulfillment to her heart.

Currently, Phumela is gearing up for the next exciting phase of her journey as she heads to Grahamstown. However, this time she won't be guiding her students; instead, she'll be donning the hat of a judge, specifically judging the EXPLORA LITE competition. Although she admits feeling a mix of excitement and nerves, she knows that taking up new challenges is a vital part of personal growth. Doing something for the first time can feel daunting, but Phumela is confident that she will give it her all. After all, this is what she loves, and her dedication ensures that she will thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Her enthusiasm is evident as she eagerly waits for Saturday, the big day when the Grahamstown event will take place. Dancing with anticipation, she can't wait to witness the young talents showcase their robotics skills. Phumela's passion for robotics education and her commitment to nurturing young minds make her an exceptional and invaluable judge in the upcoming competition.

Follow our social media accounts to see what will be doing and meet the children and teachers who are part of this journey with us.
