ITE training: Holiday Assignment 1

The goal of this exercise is to create a How-To website tutorial for the teachers and learners to join in on the Flippity fun! Each of you have had the opportunity to work with a teacher and real content to create your Flippity tool. Now it is time to go BIG!

Outcome or goal of the activity

  • To create an online How-to-tutorial for teachers and learners with embedded video and step by step tutorials.
  • To make sure that we can use Screenpal
  • To make sure that we can use Scribd!
  • Create a blogpost and earn 20 points!
  • Embed videos, posts, and other elements into our blogposts.
  • Get familiar with the CAPS documents so that we can support the teachers with tech ideas and tutorials.
  • Think how we can create a specific badge workshop with activities and cool tools.

Activity 1: Creating a How-to tutorial

  1. Create a new blogpost
    • Sign into our kiltelearning.co.za/wp-admin dashboard.
    • Click on New (see top ribbon)-->Post.
    • Insert your heading (e.g. How to create Flashcards using Flippity)
    • Insert a relevant picture (You can use a free image, see our Wakelet here) or do a screenshot of your relevant tool.
    • Write a small introduction to what your blogpost/tutorial is all about. (e.g. what your Flippity tool can do--> Create Flashcards, Create a self marking Quiz, Create a crossword puzzle, Create a wordsearch etc.)
  1. Insert a button that will take the reader of your post to go and play with the tool that you have created.
    • Click on the + at the top left of your blog screen in editing mode and search for Button
    • Type in: Go to Typing game and insert the Flippity link to your game. Remember to switch the tab to Open in a new tab
  1. Embed your Screenpal Flippity How-to video into your blogpost.
  1. Create a scribe and insert/embed/create a button to a scribe instruction about your Flippity.
    • Some people learn easier following written instructions. Scribd make it super easy to capture step by step on screen instructions.
    • Go to Youtube and watch a few videos on how to use Scribd.
    • Practice by creating a scribe for your specific Flippity tool.
    • Copy the link and come back to your blogpost tab.
    • Insert a button block (click on the +, top left, to the right)
    • Add the scribe link to the button. e.g.

Activity 2: Getting to know the CAPS document

  • Check that you have completed all the settings categories and that your post featured picture is inserted
  • Publish your post = 20 points
  1. Why would we want to do that? Next term we will be focusing on Languages and Mathematics Teachers. In order to help them integrate e-Learning into their subjects, we will start with Intermediary and Senior phase teachers. We therefore need to know what they will be teaching.
    • Download the CAPS documents and think about how you could use the tools that we have already dealt with (Kahoot, Flippity, Screenpal, Scribd, Slideshows, video, audio, AI) to help them integrate technology into their lesson planning.
  1. Read through term 3's topics across the subjects and see where and how you can create a tech assistive tool (from your toolkit) for that topic. It can be just a tool, for example, a kahoot/bingo/typing test, for the topic or it can be a workshop.
  2. Use AI to create the workshop for you!! eg See Bradleys Tech workshop

Activity 3

  1. Make sure that you upload all POEs to your folder
  2. Insert your name and links to your evidence into this document

Deadline for this assignment

Friday 14th July. You must be ready to present it on our workshop day on the 17th of July
