- Lab Introduction & Setup
Step 1: Lab Rules
- Respect all equipment
- No food or drinks
- Use approved websites only
- Do not change settings
- Use your own login
- Follow instructions immediately
- Do not disturb the classroom working environment
- Save your files in your own folder on the Public/Shared Drive.
- Organize your workstation and clean your area
- Check for damage and report issues immediately
Step 2: "It's lonely here"
- Fix its lonely here
- Click on the “+” (Add) button in the top right-hand corner
- Select Desktop
- Click on Add Manually
- Enter the following details:
- IP Address:
Type the IP address of your virtual machine
(Example: 10.55.187.125) - Select: Enter every time
- IP Address:
- Click Save
- Connect to the Virtual Machine
- A new desktop icon will appear using the IP address
(Example: 10.55.187.125) - Click on the desktop to connect
- A new desktop icon will appear using the IP address
- Login Details
- Enter the following:
- Username: user1
- Password: 09876
- And click in the right corner of the window to "Connect"
- Enter the following:
- For Standalone Systems (Concordia High)
- Username: Stud1
- Password: 007
Step 3: Check Proxy Settings
- Click on the "Start Menu"
- Click on "Settings" (⚙️ icon)
- In the search bar, type "Proxy settings"
- Click on "Proxy settings"
- Configure Your Settings
- Under Automatic proxy setup:
- Turn ON → Automatically detect settings
- Under Manual proxy setup:
- Turn OFF → Use a proxy server
Step 4: How to access Public Drive / Shared Drive
- Click on the "File Explorer" icon on the taskbar
- On the left-hand side, click on "This PC"
- Under Devices and drives, look for:
- Public Drive or Shared Drive
- Double-click on the drive to open
Step 5: Create Your Folder and First Document
Step 5.1: Create Your Folder
- Right-click inside the drive
- Click on New → Folder
- Name your folder:
- (Example: Koos_Koekemoer)
- Press Enter
Step 5.2: Create a Word Document
- Click on the Start Menu
- Search for Microsoft Word
- Click to open Microsoft Word
- Select Blank Document
Step 5.3: Type Your Name
- In the document, type your:
- Name and Surname:
- (Example: Koos Koekemoer)
Step 5.4: Save Your Document in Your Folder
- Click "File" → "Save As"
- Click on "This PC"
- Navigate to "Public Drive / Shared Drive"
- Open your folder (Name_Surname)
- Name your file:
- (Example: Koos Koekemoer.docx)
- Click "Save"
