When I think about Grade 11, I think of that big in between space. Learners are preparing for their final year of school, starting to dream about careers, and figuring out who they are. It’s exciting, but also a little overwhelming. That’s exactly why I created a workshop called “Design Your Future with Canva.”

This isn't just about teaching a design tool. It is about giving learners a chance to pause, reflect on their goals, and create something meaningful while learning practical digital skills.

Kicking Off with Jaribaness

• Ice breaker
• First sign into your gmail account
  Go to www.canva.com and sign up for a free Canva account.

Activity 1: Vision Boards for Big Dreams

• Open Canva and search for “Vision Board Templates.”
• Replace the placeholders with images, words, or icons that represent your:
  • Career dreams (doctor, engineer, artist, entrepreneur)
  • Personal goals (confidence, independence, travel)
  • Milestones for Grade 12 and beyond
• Format tips:
  • Use at least 5 images.
  • Add one motivational quote.
  • Choose a color palette that represents you.
  • Chuck it in your padlet

Activity 2: Infographics that Tell a Story

We will explore infographics

• Topic ideas: Study Tips, Mental Health, Career Choices.
• Choose an infographic template in Canva.
• Add:
  • 3–5 key points (short text)
  • Icons or visuals to match
  • A clear title
• Format tips:
  • Keep text short and punchy.
  • Use charts, graphs, or icons to make it visual.
  • Chuck it in your padlet

Activity 3: Getting Career Ready with CVs

• Search Canva for “CV Template.”
• Fill in your details:
  • Name & contact info
  • Education
  • Skills
  • Achievements/activities
• Format tips:
  • Keep it to one to two pages
  • Use a professional, simple design.
  • Avoid too many colors.
  • Chuck it in your padlet

Activity 4: Bringing AI into the Classroom

After lunch, Learners will be introduced to: Explore Canva AI tools:

• Magic Write: generate ideas or slogans
• Text-to-Image: create original AI artwork

Activity 5: The Big Finish - The Canva Showdown

• In groups, learners get 15 minutes to create:
  • A poster OR a 3-slide pitch
• Themes:
  • “The Future of Work”
  • “Matric Motivation”
• Showcase: Each group presents their design.
• Chuck it in your padlet

By the end of this worskop , you will walk away with :

• A vision board that inspires them
• An infographic that communicates ideas clearly
• A professional CV they can build on for the future
• A presentation created with the help of AI tools
