Gallery walk for maths teacher (workshop 2)

Agenda:

  • Introduction to Gallery Walks
  • Walk the exhibits
  • Create a collaborative exhibit (collaboration Badge)

What is a gallery walk?
Ask each other and ask ChatGpt. Explain in your own words what it is. Today is about experiencing it and starting to create one for our learners collaboratively.

What is DIep again?

Tools

It is never about the tools- it is always about the learning and being DIeP. So in this session we will do a blended Gallery walk using no tech, medium tech and high tech tools.

At every exhibit you will see a list of wonderful tech tools that can liven up the exhibit, but we will always start with low tech stickies to share what we think! Time to get familiar with our virtual Gallery....

Once you have entered the padlet, change your Padlet name to your own name by clicking on the round icon at the top right of your screen.

Made with Padlet
  • Your first exhibit is completely virtual. (click on the link⬅️), join the Exhibit 1 breakout room using the link.
  • Add an AI generated picture post of what really excites/makes you sad about teaching maths.
    • What really excites/makes me sad  me about teaching maths is.......  (and attach your AI picture)
  • The other attendees must then go and comment by adding examples or further questions. (See Maths taxonomy)
    • Make at least one comment or question using text comments.
    • Make at least one comment or question using a voice comment,
    • Make sure that all the posts have comments on them!
  • What was the aim of this exhibit?
  • What other open-ended questions can make this exhibit Dieper? Go add as posts
  • Complete the scorecard for Exhibit 1 as a team (Discuss and complete)

Team Instructions:

Add Thinking questions to the exhibit: Use sticky paper and on the padlet. (you must do both!)

  • What questions can we ask the learners that will make them think deeply about the cube and nets? How what where? How can we use maths taxonomy cognitive levels to frame our questions (Describe, Evaluate, Judge, Explain, Analyse...)
  • How can you adapt or change this exhibit for your classroom gallery walk diep lesson?
  • Complete the scorecard for Exhibit 3

Teacher Guiding questions and scorecard: Sticky and virtual answers (photo of stickies + voice notes)

Instructions

  • Go to the Geogebra simulation on the tablet and play with the triangle. What is a triangle?
  • Make right angled triangles, isosceles triangles, scalene triangles by moving the triangle vertices.
  • Prove that the whole team has done it in this exhibit.
  • Answer these open ended questions on your own or with others to form deeper math connections. Stickies and voice notes
    • Describe a right triangle. (5.1) As a team choir in a voice comment
    • Can a triangle be scalene and isosceles? Explain.(5.2) Rap it!
