On Saturday, 17 May 2025, the energy in Knysna Secondary School will shift into high gear as learners from Knysna Secondary, Percy Mdala and Concordia High School gather for an exciting day of innovation, creativity, and teamwork. Edunova, in collaboration with the Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (KILT), is proud to host a LEGO Robotics Competition that puts STEM skills front and centre.
This local competition, run in line with World Robot Olympiad South Africa (WROSA) standards, is more than just a challenge—it’s a stepping stone. For Grade 9 learners, the stakes are even higher. This event acts as a preliminary round, where top-performing teams will be selected to represent their schools at the Provincial Competition taking place on 1 August 2025 at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town.
This year also marks a special milestone: it will be the first-ever robotics competition experience for our new cohort of Grade 8 learners. These young pioneers will step into the world of competitive robotics, gaining invaluable exposure and laying the foundation for future STEM success.
The day promises a mix of fun and serious learning. Learners will showcase their ability to build, code, and problem-solve under pressure—critical 21st-century skills that prepare them for a rapidly changing world. From navigating robots through obstacle courses to collaborating on real-world challenges, the competition cultivates creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication—the essential 4Cs.
This initiative forms part of KILT and Edunova’s shared mission to provide quality education, digital literacy, and access to STEM opportunities to learners from disadvantaged communities. The competition also gives learners a safe space to shine, building their confidence while keeping them engaged and off the streets.
