KILT in partnership with Edunova hosted our very first KILT e-Celebration on 4 February, where we rewarded our Knysna schools for their commitment to e-learning in a fun and exciting way.
Our schools have been engaging in a point system "game" throughout 2022, to track the use of technology in the classroom through:
- submitting e-lesson plans,
- attending e-workshops, meetings and webinars,
- uploading lesson plans,
- acquiring technology for their schools,
- and engaging in all things e!
Our IT Enablers (ITEs) in our schools kept track of the points earned and supported their schools by establishing afterschool clubs for coding and robotics as well as by hosting activities in the computer labs. All these related activities earned points and created hot competition between the schools.
One of the aims of our e-Celebration was to create a platform where teachers and principals from different schools could mingle and network. We achieved this by creating a scavenger hunt where teams competed for spot prizes.
It was wonderful to see the joy and engagement of the teachers as they gave up their Saturday, in scorching heat without losing enthusiasm. Our tech and school vendors were there to show off their awesome technology and gave us a glimpse of great new advancements that is designed to make e-learning exciting and future focused.

We had 5 different kinds of Robotics and coding stations on offer, zooming us into the 4th industrial revolution! Eduboard introduced us to Marty the robot, Tangible Africa showcased their unplugged coding (Tanks and Rangers) and our very own ITEs showed off Spike robotics, Micro:bit, scratch and EV3s. We also showcased Kahoot, Flippity, QR codes and artificial intelligence (AI) stations, to demonstrate how we could spice up our lessons.

Dietrich Baron of Edunova pointed out that our work in Knysna is having a ripple effect on the projects that Edunova is running in the rest of South Africa.
Sammy Bowers, e-learning advisor of the Department of Education, thanked KILT, the teachers and principals for their success in making our schools e-ready.
Sandy Ueckermann, Managing Director of KILT, elaborated on how we are the ocean in a drop, rather than a drop in the ocean when realising the change that we are co-creating in Knysna. Our Western Cape premier, Alan Winde, concluded with his e-keynote focused on how important it is for our KILT schools to make the most of these opportunities in order to be ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers on the day for inspiring our teachers to LEVEL UP! It is always good to see the joy and appreciation of our e-Learning team from the teachers and leaders of our KILT supported schools.
