Setting Up a STEM Speaker in the Classroom

What is a STEM Speaker?

A STEM speaker, such as the Shure Stem Speaker, is a network-based audio device designed for clear communication in classrooms and meeting spaces.

It works together with microphones to ensure:

  • Everyone in the room can hear clearly
  • Remote participants can hear the teacher and learners
  • Hybrid teaching becomes smooth and professional

Recommended setup:

Soundbar

  • Place at the front of the classroom
  • Above or below the display/projector
  • Facing learners

Table Speaker

  • Place in the middle of the classroom or on teachers desk
  • On a desk where learners interact

Step-by-Step Connection Guide

  1. Connect Power to the PoE Switch (Clover Cable)
    • Plug the clover power cable into the PoE switch.
    • Plug the other end into a power outlet

  2. Connect Devices to Power (PoE)
    • Plug the Soundbar / Table speaker into the PoE switch using Ethernet cable

  3. Connect the System to Your Laptop (USB – Printer Cable Setup)
    • Plug the USB-B (square end) into the back of the Soundbar
    • Plug the USB-A end into your laptop

  4. Select Devices on Your Laptop
    • In your laptop, go to Sound Settings:
      • Speaker (Output) → Stem Soundbar
      • Microphone (Input) → Stem system

  5. Test the System
    • Speak from front and learner positions
    • Play audio
